Extra Credit: 5,000 Bonus SPG Points for 15 Nights

Though the Marriott-SPG merger was finalized a few weeks ago, with both websites redesigned to reflect all 30 participating brands, both loyalty programs will run separately through 2018. SPG is currently running the More For You program, where guests earn double Starpoints on weekday stays of 2 or more nights, and triple points on stays including weekends. They’ve announced a new promo to supplement this one – earn 5000 bonus Starpoints for 15 eligible nights.

SPG Promo 5000 Bonus Points

SPG members will have to register on the promotion website and meet the following minimum requirements to earn the bonus:

  • Book and stay 15 eligible (paid) nights between October 18 and December 18 at any Starwood property.
  • Pay with any American Express credit card
  • Reservations made prior to the promo period are eligible, as long as the stay occurs during the dates noted above

Those who hit all the marks will earn a bonus 5,000 points. There don’t seem to be any Starwood property exclusions for this promotion, but if you’re interested, be sure to flip through the Terms & Conditions on this promo.

On a side note, the promo page explicitly calls out that this promotion is limited to the Starwood brands. So even though SPG American Express Holders can earn 2 extra points per dollar on Marriott stays (and a similar bonus point benefit for Marriott Visa holders staying at Starwood properties), it looks like this promotion is limited just to the 11 SPG brands.

I don’t know about you, but fifteen nights can be a lot, especially at the end of the year, since I imagine most people have their hotel stays already plotted out by now. I have a few trips planned through the end of the year, but I’m not sure that I’ll hit the 15 required nights during the promotion period (though if it was extended through Christmas, I definitely would have!). Not sure that the 5,000 points are worth going out of your way for, but if you happen to have the nights booked, it’s an easy way to top up your points before the end of the year.

I’m glad to see things appear to be business as usual with the SPG promotions – no major Marriott changes have come up as of yet, but I suppose we’ll see what 2017 has in store for us in terms of benefits as it approaches.

Anyone planning a mattress run for this promotion?
