LATAM Exits Canadian Market

In a move that should surprise no one, TAM has cancelled their ridiculously scheduled Toronto flights that operated via New York. The fact it was only twice a week and required a stop at JFK was hard enough to overcome – and now it seems that coupled with the tanking Brazilian economy the route has become untenable.

LAN tried this route as well back in 2008 with a similar stop at JFK on one of their refurbished 767s, and unsurprisingly they failed as well. On top of being completely unappealing to business travelers with such a low frequency, the added transit visa requirements for the stopover at JFK made this possibly one of the worst options to Canada from South America, despite technically being on the same metal all the way through.

With the impending JV with American Airlines it makes much more sense for LATAM to code share and cut their losses on the route.
